Living room
Relocating the kitchen left an area that now accommodates a relaxed dining zone and inviting living room with a masculine, den-like feel, boasting floor-to-ceiling shelving stained in Feast Watson Black Japan that pops against the walls in Dulux Vivid White. A ‘Universal 600’ fireplace from Jetmaster draws attention away from the large TV, which almost disappears against the black background of the wall unit. Careful consideration was paid to the threshold between old and new, so much so that new blackbutt floorboards were lined up with the original walnut floors and both sets stained a shade of walnut.

The north-facing area at the rear of the house was once an unused fourth bedroom. With a partition wall removed, the kitchen was relocated to this prime position and the monochrome aesthetic of the living room extended to the new space. Custom joinery in Dulux Vivid White is a crisp contrast to a splashback made up of ‘Vixel’ mosaic tiles from Artedomus. An Emperador marble benchtop adds texture and tone to the island, with practical stainless steel topping the rear bench. The slick style continues onto the deck, where a row of cabinets and a built-in barbecue provide a functional alfresco cook space. The pergola framework adds architectural interest.
Crisp navy, ticking stripes and chocolate brown leather are the key ingredients in the bedroom’s sophisticated makeover. The vintage leather bedhead was custom made by Calamity Jane.
Custom-built hoop pine joinery stained in Feast Watson Black Japan ties in with the living room, while Artedomus ‘Vixel’ mosaic tiles and Astra Walker matt black fittings from Mary Noall offer plenty of punch in the ensuite.
