Meet the Dream Home Australia 2024 contestants
There are six teams competing to win Dream Home. Let’s get to know them…
Brad and Mel
Thirty years ago, Brad was a teenager in a famous boy band called CDB. They travelled the world with hits such as Let’s Groove (remember that one?) and played to major crowds.
He met wife Mel, they had four children, who are now teenagers, and never quite got around to giving their home in Northcote, Victoria, the love (and extension!) it needs.
All six of them share one bathroom and can’t fit in the bedrooms. “It would be our dream to give each of the kids their own room,” says Mel.
While these two have the warmest of hearts, it’s already looking like that might not work to their advantage with more cut-throat contestants.
Taeler and Elle
These sisters from Victoria bring a bit of an edge. The eldest, Taeler, is an architect by trade and a professional renovator.
Younger sister Elle’s home will undergo the Dream Home renovation, which is well overdue in Taeler’s opinion. “I’m basically forcing Elle into renovating this house,” says Taelar.
“We’re going to be super organised, based on being good managers and good designers,” says Taeler. The other contestants better watch their backs with these two!
Hannah and Jonny
Fun-loving couple from Queensland Hannah and Jonny desperately need an upgrade for their family home. It’s flaking lead paint and things are falling apart around them.
Not only that, they now have twin babies. “We were trying really hard for a long time. And then we got them. Now we’re f*****,” says Jonny. “Now we have no room. We need help.”
To create their dream home, they’re having to be away from their babies. “We are potentially missing their first steps, first words, first crawl… I’m not going to cry,” says Jonny. It’s going to be a tear-filled season!
While Hannah might be nice, she’s onto architect Taeler and her competitive tricks.
Rhys and Liam
Tradie brothers from Queensland Rhys and Liam bring larrikin laughs and a whole lot of experience on the tools, which has already worked in their favour.
Younger brother Liam (below, right) is here for his own dream home and he’s brought along his big bro for help.
“To see Liam have his dream home… I haven’t cried in a couple of years, since I was about five, but it would probably make me cry to be honest,” says Rhys.
Jacinta and Jordan
Jacinta and Jordan are a young married couple from NSW with two young children and a lot of enthusiasm. “It’s happening!” says Jacinta as the renovations kick off.
They already had curve balls upfront, with out-of-control structural delays and measurement mistakes slowing them down.
We’re looking forward to seeing if they make up for lost time as the season unfolds.
Lara and Peter
From NSW, Lara and Peter are parents of two young children. With no experience on a building site, these two will have their work cut out for them.
“Don’t embarrass me,” self-confessed boss of the household Lara tells Peter in the first episode. “I will embarrass you.”
The show’s only just begun and we’ve already seen them give up a lot of space to the tradie brothers, so we’ll see if they get more savvy as time goes on.
Who are the judges on Dream Home?
We’ve got buyer’s agent and co-founder of Cohen Handler, Simon Cohen. He’s proven his reality show chops on Luxe Listings Sydney, where we followed him on the hunt for premium real-estate for his clients.
Then we have renovating genius Lana Taylor from the Three Birds Renovations trio, whose white on-trend home makeovers are all over YouTube.
The third Dream Home judge is interior designer Rosie Morley, who helped property-owners renovate to increase their home’s value on Selling In The City.
The expertise and showmanship this dynamic trio bring to the table is enough to get us watching! We can’t wait to see how a couple of the stronger judge personalities (*cough*, Lana and Simon) mesh… or clash.
What is the new renovation show on Channel 7 Australia?
Dream Home is a fun, fresh take on the renovating shows we already know and love with six pairs of everyday Australians taking part. Leaving their own homes in the hands of the other contestants, they will refresh each other’s houses room by room.
The competition will determine who are the top three couples, and they will get their outdoor areas landscaped.
The final winning pair will win a cash prize of $100,000 along with their ‘dream home’. Every pair will walk away as winners though, as their houses will all be renovated.
Who is the host of Dream Home Australia?
Wondering what Dr Chris Brown is doing in 2024? This is it! He’s hosting Dream Home. The lovable veterinary surgeon with the chiselled jawline found fame on feel-good show Bondi Vet when it first aired in 2009. After around seven years he moved onto new opportunities, having success at Network Ten on the likes of The Living Room and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
In 2024 Dr Chris Brown has joined Channel Seven as the shiny new host on Dancing With The Stars. He’ll also be travelling and filming for a new series called Once In A Lifetime, where he’ll be visiting the world’s wildlife.
But of course the one we’re most excited about is Dream Home. Think he doesn’t have the credentials to head up a home glow-up show? Think again! The man’s talents have no bounds. We actually took a tour of Dr Chris Brown’s renovated former Bondi pad, which is barefoot beach goals. He might have gotten expert help but it still proves he’s got good interiors taste. We’re loving seeing him thrive on a building site, just like he did in the jungle.
We’ll keep you posted as the season progresses – and be sure to share your thoughts with us on who you think might win. We’re already seeing some strong contenders!
