Case study: Small bathroom makeover

Bereft of natural light, this small bathroom benefits from a streamlined design and fuss-free fixtures

When space is at a premium, a restrained two-tone palette creates visual depth. Interior designer Camilla Molders harnessed a monochrome colour scheme to bring light and balance to this small family bathroom, with a black base and white top.

White tiles serve to push the walls outwards, while underfoot Camilla selected subtly embossed charcoal tiles by Patricia Urquiola, which continue up the side of the bath to create a tactile feature. The texture creates interest in a small space where statement fixtures are out of the question. Wall-mounted tapware over the bath saves space and creates a streamlined look – the circular bath mixer is another small yet effective design detail.

Hard-wearing, easy-clean surfaces and ample storage space were must-haves, hence the dirt-repellent ‘Libra Quaryl’ bath and recessed wall niche to keep washing accessories at hand. An extendable glass shower screen folds out to stop splashes and back in when not in use to make the space feel larger. The question of storage is answered by a bespoke vanity unit wrapped in inky Even Raven veneer and a mirrored cabinet above.
