Two-tone and terrific kitchen

Timber meets two-pac in a family kitchen with lustrous good looks.

At the practical end of the wishlist for this beautiful kitchen was enough storage to keep clutter at bay. Architect Andrew Wilson of WARC Studio devised a vision of timber and two-pac, with custom fittings that deliver an elegant yet highly practical space that can service a crowd. The impressive, custom-built timber storage box on the left of the room provides an array of places to tuck away belongings and even contributes extra seating when needed. Made from carbonised bamboo, from Leto bamboo, it adds a unique feature.

A long, custom-made pendant by Lights & Tracks, hanging over the bench, is the perfect piece to highlight the extensive island, clad in spotted gum. Flexible seating is a bonus in a busy household. This kitchen can accommodate bodies on stools around the island bench and on the built-in seating opposite.

Handle-free white joinery with recessed finger-pulls and built-in appliances underscore the kitchen’s clean lines. A splashback of pale porcelain Perini ‘Cube’ tiles and a Senstone bench in light ‘Alto 615’ create a restrained backdrop to the wealth of timber elsewhere in the room. The pair of Asko ovens have a pyrolitic feature that saves time on cleaning in the busy household.
