All eyes are currently on Lady Gaga with the release of “A star is born”, the film in which she makes her big screen debuts with Bradley Cooper. Home side, for an artist who outwardly expresses herself so boldly, we’re surprised by the understated design of her sprawling Malibu mansion overlooking Zuma Beach and the North Pacific Ocean.
Over the years Lady Gaga’s style has developed from intrepid and somewhat outlandish at times to more recently include classic designer pieces in clean lines and confident colours. Perhaps the antithesis then is the understated decorating scheme in her tasteful and open-hearted Malibu home.
“I’m obsessively opposed to the typical.”

Designed by architect Steve Giannetti, the star reportedly purchased the 6 acre property for USD$23million and whilst there’s nothing typical about the five-bedroom, 12 bathroom home as far as size is concerned, the sense of relaxation and welcome the estate exudes is certainly unexpected. Beautifully appointed with luxurious yet accessible finishes, it gives fans an intimate understanding of the way the celebrated musician lives and works at home.
With interiors by interior designer Madeline Stuart, the sprawling home has a collection of private spaces to gather outside closer to the house. Gaga takes a tour of along verandah to a colourful outdoor patios in Vogue’s 73 questions video here:
We love the classic furnishings and neutral palette filled with textured timbers, leather ottomans and linen couches that allow the Mediterranean-style architecture of the space to shine.
The kitchen design would be at home in any Australian home with its classic Shaker-style cabinetry, generous island bench beneath a trio of pendant lights. An adjacent convivial dining area includes a country-style timber dining table and woven chairs – all beneath exposed beams.
A more formal dining area sits beneath an elegant chandelier in another open plan living area – nearby sumptuous linen sofas nestle around a stone fireplace.
Bedrooms are generously swathed in all-white linens, with plush armchairs to sink into and enjoy the sweeping ocean views.
Outdoors, resort-style living sees wide paved terraces, stone pathways and country-style plantings surrounding an elegant stone-terraced pool. Throughout the landscaped gardens further from the main house the estate extends to stables and a dressage ring
In the lower level is a beautifully appointed cellar, a two-lane bowling alley and home cinema.
Famously quoted as saying that, “Love is like a brick. You can build a house, or you can sink a dead body,” we’re glad Lady Gaga has chosen the former.
