Before
Expedition Happiness is the project of filmmaker Felix Starck and singer Mogli. The German couple bought an old 12-metre long American school bus – a 1996 Thomas International Built, and transformed it into a home.
After
The couple travelled to the US to transform their US$9,500 bus. In April, following major delays and complications, Mogli and Felix were finally able to start their journey through North America.
Kitchen
The creative couple designed and built the kitchen themselves. And according to Felix, the kitchen is even bigger than the one the he shared with Mogli in their loft in Berlin.
Kitchen
The kitchen comes with everything you could possibly need (on the road): a freezer, an oven, a toaster and even a blender. Each kitchen utensil has been sourced from a different part of the world – there’s an old milk can from the Ukraine, kitchen towels from Latvia, wooden cutting boards from the US and much, much more.
Bedroom
The bedroom features a comfy queen-size bed. One half folds up so bulkier stuff, such as an outdoor table and tools can be stored underneath. The other side has four pull-out drawers for clothes. While everything else can go into the big closet and the little drawers above the bed fit little things such as phones and books. The couple even added a few power outlets to the bedroom as well as a 32-inch TV with Apple TV and a little sun roof for star gazing.
Lounge room
The bus’s lounge room is surprisingly spacious. The table folds down, which makes the room even more versatile. The couch was designed by the couple themselves: it features two big drawers and even folds out into a double bed – perfect for visitors. Vitra Eames chairs are the perfect choice for the ‘home on wheels’ as they don’t move around at all – even when their journey takes the owners through bumpy hinterland.
Bathroom
The bus features both a shower – which has been covered with dark green handmade tiles from Mercury Mosaics – and a seperate, eco-friendly composting toilet.
