Idyllic Collette Dinnigan-designed homestead hits the market

This sprawling estate boasts chic interiors and a thriving kitchen garden.

Springfield, a sprawling homestead once owned and renovated by celebrated Australian fashion designer Collette Dinnigan has hit the market, for sale by expressions of interest. Dinnigan purchased the Southern Highlands property in Avoca, NSW for $4.5 million in 2016 and transformed it according to her signature understated-elegance-meets-boho-style before promptly selling it for $7.25 million just 18 months later. Since then, Springfield has operated as short term accommodation and as a health and wellness retreat, Life at Springfield.

The 7-bedroom homestead is set on a 20-acre parcel of land that overlooks the glorious slopes of Mount Gibraltar and is surrounded by several outbuildings including a 3-bedroom farmhouse, eco-lodge and two studios. Recent changes to the property have focussed on making the property self-sufficient, and a 100-panel solar system along with a trio of Tesla batteries, power the estate.

The interiors

Collette Dinnigan began her interior design career in 2016 when she was invited to create the interiors for apartment development Golf House in Sydney’s Surry Hills. Since then, she has put her chic stamp on a number of properties, including Bannisters by the Sea in Mollymook, NSW. Her signature style is on show at Springfield, where crisp white walls act as a perfect backdrop to pops of blue.

The garden

Shortly after purchasing the property, the current owners shared their plans to introduce native trees and bushes back into the garden in Life at Springfield’s journal. “Our dream is to live in a forest, surrounded by wildlife. So, that’s the plan, to reforest Springfield.”
