A unique collaboration between two specialists – one a woodworker and the other a treehouse builder, has resulted in the ultimate retreat… right in your own backyard.
It may look quaint, even rudimentary, nestled into its woodland environment, however behind those rustic shingles there’s more engineering to the Escape Pod than meets the eye.
Designed and crafted in the Gloucestershire countryside by treehouse specialist Jeremy Fitter and seasoned hardwood specialist Dominic Ash, the Escape Pod was born out of a desire to create a beautiful, striking outdoor structure.
Made from strong and beautiful birch plywood, the frame is clad with cedar shingles and has stairs and window sills clad in European Oak for its natural weather resistance.
More impressive though is the aircraft style ‘plug’ door which swings across on a wooden hinge mechanism to reveal a snug room with your choice of layout – bedroom, study, living or dining room.
The pod sits on a raised platform half a metre from the ground and can be rotated to face your choice of view. It’s what’s on the inside that counts though. Pods are custom made so can be tailored to order – right down to window placement and heating options of wood burning fire or underfloor heating.
Currently only available in the UK, Pods are priced from £19,800 (AUD35,500) so you might want to put it on your wishlist for now, but perhaps we’ll see one orbitting the southern hemisphere in the not too distant future.
