This year saw us falling in love again and again with beautiful interiors to share so, this time as we round out the year, we thought we’d let you do the edit. Over to you, our lovely readers – here are the Top 5 most liked Instagram posts of 2017, along with style tips for what makes them work so well.
1. A classically elegant Australian homestead
What’s not to love about a stunning heritage property with wrap-around verandahs? The all-white colour scheme on this exterior paint palette allows the architecture of the home to do all the talking – particularly in the cooler months when the leaves drop from deciduous trees like these frangipanis. In summer this scene takes on a tropical vibe with the return of lush leaves amid fragrant blooms to provide shade for this shaggy trio.
2. Black & white bathroom
Monotone black and white gives license to introduce a bold pattern on the floor tiles in this luxurious bathroom. A statement-making freestanding bathtub takes in the adjacent garden view, with lush colour entering the space via the verdant greens, picked up by the potted strelitzia at the French doors.
3. Contemporary kitchen with artful texture
In the perfect mix of old and new, this contemporary kitchen shows us how to bring the artisanal craft of parquetry into the 21st Century with herringbone patterned timber flooring. High gloss cabinetry gives a streamlined finish and the absence of handles on the drawers in the entire space allows for a sleek finish, maximum style and efficient workability.
4. Same, but different
It’s not secret HB readers love an all-white kitchen, so we’re not surprised to see the similarities here. However it’s the differences that speak volumes to us – the shaker style cabinetry brings old world charm and the addition of simple black handles adds contemporary character, transporting the space to the present. Tonal tiles for the splashback come in a modern, large format size and echo the smooth stainless steel appliances.
5. Shaking up your Shaker style
With endless options to add detail in an all-white kitchen, this one carries the trend towards introducing a contrasting bank of cabinetry overhead. Wire pendant lights allow the eyes to see through to the space beyond and presents another texture with a touch of timber – also seen on the servery detail.
