Bathroom inspiration: Set in stone

Natural materials give subtle colour and texture to a family bathroom in Perth

Durability and practicality were at the forefront when designing this family bathroom, and using different types of stone amply fulfilled the brief. The poured concrete floor provides a seamless hardwearing surface with an understated pattern, while Essastone quartz in New Sable Luxe for the bath surround and vanity top makes a glossy contrast to the textured feature tiles. Elsewhere, subtle semi-polished rectangular tiles in a neutral tone give the textured finish free reign.

Fixtures and fittings have been kept to a minimum to enhance the linear design. One wide, shallow basin, in a similar style to the bath, was chosen instead of a pair of smaller ones. The slick wall-mounted vanity by Positiva Building has stainless-steel handles that are a gleaming counterpoint to the expanse of stone, while storage is provided by plenty of soft-closing drawers and a recessed mirrored cabinet that helps to keep the room clutter free.

A shower screen fixed to the edge of the bath surround negates the need for a fussy shower cubicle, while the practicalities of water drainage are dealt with by a discreet trough grate.
