House Rules in 2019 is shaping up to be pretty exciting – the new judge Jamie Durie joins HB’s former editor in chief Wendy Moore and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen to navigate new twists and turns of the competition, with prize money yet to be announced. What we do know is that we can expect a whole bunch of excitement from the teams this season.
Here’s a sneak peek at the teams:
Mikaela & Eliza – Surfie Sisters WA
The touching story of two sisters who have spent their lives in surfing competitions and now turn their hand to home renovation, entering the House Rules competition to help their mother start again in life… with absolutely no renovating experience! “I have never really picked up a power tool before… we are the tools!” they exclaim when asked how much DIY they’ve done.
Tim & Mat – Chippie Brothers VIC
Another team with no experience in designing, Tim and Mat they may be on the same wavelength as each other and have what it takes to build a home, but who knows if they have any style when it comes to designing and decorating a home? There’s a history of winning results from carpenters on the show, but never with two chippies on the same team – can they break the voodoo?
Lisa & Andy – Air Hostess & Fireman SA
Possibly the most excitable contestant we’ve ever seen on House Rules, Lisa is an air hostess coming down to earth to compete for the big renovation prize with her fire-fighting partner, who look set to spread their excitement on location with plenty of enthusiasm and some amazing innovation in home design.
Pete & Courtney – Dance Teachers VIC
Living in a “huge brown brick monster” at the top of a hill are an all singing, all dancing renovating couple of dance teachers hoping to bring their best performance yet to House Rules – there’s a lot of razzle dazzle, but describing themselves as a “triple threat” of singing, dancing and renovating, we can wait to see their design spark.
Katie & Alex – New parents NSW
Married couple Katie and Alex have left their one-year-old daughter Hallie to join the House Rules competition to change their life forever. “My out-of-the-box design ideas and improvisation as we as my ability to keep calm in stressful situations,” says Katie who has the full support of her Federal Policeman husband Alex, who’s prepared to go full throttle to the finish line. “I will work until I drop; breaking myself in the process or die trying,” he says.
Shayn & Carly – tiny home, big ideas QLD
Falling in love with the location, not the size of their three-bedroom, double brick house on the Sunshine Coast, Shayn & Carly are looking to upgrade it for their three kids. “Our family is fast outgrowing the house,” says former chippie Shayn who plans to keep ‘overthinker’ Carly from taking things too seriously and stick to deadlines in the renos.
House Rules host with the most Johanna Griggs also returns this year to deliver what looks like plenty of fun and action – not least the teams dance choreography on Paint Night. We can’t wait to see this season unfold! Watch this space for behind-the-scenes action, or go to Channel Seven for more details.
