When Wendy and her husband, Pete, found out they were expecting twins, they rose to the challenge of transforming a small home office into a beautiful children’s room. Carefully considered furniture choices, a neutral palette and handmade accessories from loved ones came together to create a gorgeous space for their daughters Darcy and Ruth that, five years on, still suits each of the girls’ individual personalities and growing needs.
Originally the small room was used as a home office, and the decor was in need of a refresh. A repaint in soft grey and crisp white revived the space, and then Wendy could tackle the enjoyable task of decorating the room for the girls’ impending arrival.
Investing in a pair of Danish-designed cots from Leander was a clever choice as they reconfigure from baby beds to junior versions. “They look gorgeous and they’re also smaller than standard singles, so they’ve worked really well in the compact room,” says Wendy.
White replica ‘Componibili’ bedside tables from Matt Blatt and a Moroccan ottoman enhance the calming colour scheme. The window glass was replaced with an opaque pane, and a Luxaflex ‘Silhouette’ blind was installed for added privacy. “The bedroom doesn’t have a view, so we weren’t missing out on anything, and the blind is soft enough that natural light still comes through.”
Wendy and Pete enlisted Academic Built-In Wardrobes to tailor the existing wardrobe to suit the needs of two children. “We had a set of drawers installed and added a long shelf for storage and hanging space,” explains Wendy.
