Choose the right bedhead
A padded bedhead is brilliant for those who love to read in bed, but ensure you get the height right. “A good standard height is 1450mm to 1600mm,” says interior designer Karenza Jewell of Cotter & Jewell Interiors.
Bedside height is key
Pick a bedside table about the same height as your mattress to minimise awkward leaning. It looks neater, too.
Look for linen
Pure linen is a wonderful choice for sheets, keeping you cooler in summer and warmer in winter, plus it becomes softer and more beautiful with age.
Conserve space
Hang a pendant light instead of squeezing a lamp onto a bedside table – a smart idea in a small space.
Bedding choices
Quilts are a matter of personal choice, but allergy sufferers are best to avoid feather and down. Washable wool is a good option and also regulates heat well. Synthetic alternatives have less breathablility than natural fillings, but are the lightest of all.
